  • Hyperliquid runs an on-chain order book on its own Layer 1, focused on perpetual futures and real-world assets.
  • Binance opened HYPE spot pairs on September 24, 2026, adding a Seed Tag and regional limits.
  • ETF filings, institutional products and a possible U.S. path are advancing, though the regulatory route remains uneven.
  • HYPE hit records near $98 before slipping into the high $80s as whales and some funds reduced exposure.

Hyperliquid HYPE market

Hyperliquid has turned into one of the more closely watched names in decentralized derivatives. The project runs its own Layer 1 network and a fully on-chain central limit order book, aiming to give traders centralized-exchange speed without giving up custody of their coins. Its native token, HYPE, is tied to the platform’s fee engine, which uses a large slice of trading revenue to buy back and burn tokens.

Over late September 2026, the conversation around HYPE shifted from pure price action to market structure. Binance added spot pairs, ETF products drew more attention, and large wallets moved millions of dollars in tokens. The result was a mix of fresh liquidity, profit-taking and debate over who was actually buying below the recent peak.

What Hyperliquid is and how HYPE works

Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange built on a custom Layer 1 blockchain designed for perpetual futures. Every order and trade is settled transparently on-chain, yet the venue aims for the feel of a centralized platform. According to technical reviews, it handles more than 100,000 orders per second with sub-second finality, charges no gas fees on trades, and lets users keep control of their funds. It supports crypto contracts such as BTC, ETH, SOL, AVAX and SUI, as well as synthetic markets for gold, silver, crude oil, equities, pre-IPO stocks, indices and commodities.

By early 2026, Hyperliquid had captured more than 70% of the decentralized perpetuals market by open interest, according to data cited by BingX. Its reach extends beyond crypto perps: in February 2026, it recorded over $20 billion in synthetic real-world asset perpetual volume in a single 10-day stretch, and BitMEX Research data showed it took 29.7% of the broader traditional finance perpetual swaps market in the first quarter. Total value locked on the protocol stood above $5.22 billion.

HYPE launched in November 2024 through an airdrop to more than 90,000 early users. There was no venture capital round or private sale, and roughly 70% of the supply went to the community. The maximum supply is fixed at 1 billion tokens. About 97% of trading fees flow into an Assistance Fund that programmatically buys and burns HYPE, linking exchange activity to token scarcity. By April 12, 2026, HYPE had a market capitalization near $10 billion, ranked around 13th among cryptocurrencies, and had gained roughly 200% over the previous year.

Binance listing and the immediate market reaction

Hyperliquid HYPE price

Binance announced on September 24, 2026, that it would open spot trading for HYPE at 11 a.m. UTC. The exchange listed three pairs: USDT, USDC and Turkish lira. Deposits were available ahead of the launch, while withdrawals were scheduled for 11 a.m. UTC on September 25. Binance said it did not charge a listing fee. Spot algorithmic orders went live with trading, and bots plus spot copy trading were set to follow within 24 hours. The TRY pair was limited to verified Binance TR accounts, and users in the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and several other regions could not trade the new pairs.

Binance also attached its Seed Tag to HYPE. That label signals higher volatility and risk than the exchange’s standard listings. Under the tag, users must pass a risk quiz every 90 days to trade HYPE on Binance Spot or Margin. The announcement initially gave the token a small lift, but the move faded after spot volume began. HYPE had already peaked near $98 on September 23, the day before the listing, and then dropped about 4.5% as large holders moved tokens. It dipped to roughly $92 before recovering to around $94, up about 6.4% for the week at that point.

The listing created a two-sided story. New Binance users could buy HYPE without using Hyperliquid’s own exchange, which broadened access. At the same time, early holders gained a deeper pool of liquidity to sell into. Hyperliquid Strategies, a treasury company focused on HYPE, bought 494,200 tokens worth about $45.8 million over 16 hours. It then held roughly 35.1 million HYPE, valued near $3.2 billion. Over the previous month, the firm had purchased about 5.5 million HYPE for around $476 million, averaging close to $16 million per day.

Other supply pressures remained visible. Multicoin sold HYPE earlier in September, and core team members have received monthly token unlocks since November 2025. One key detail for HYPE economics is that trades executed on Binance do not feed Hyperliquid’s order book or its fee-based buybacks, because they happen on Binance’s own books. Hyperliquid’s exchange still reported about $820 million in yearly revenue as of April 2026 and uses a significant portion of its fees to buy HYPE in the open market.

Whale activity, fund flows and recent demand

Hyperliquid HYPE ecosystem

On September 28, 2026, two large HYPE holders moved about $22 million worth of tokens toward exchanges. One wallet sent 177,518 HYPE, about $16.1 million, to OKX and Bybit. A second wallet linked by Lookonchain to Hypersphere Ventures sold 62,869 HYPE for roughly $5.8 million, booking a profit near $2.1 million. That wallet had reportedly bought near $58 a month earlier and sold near $92. Only the Hypersphere transfer was a confirmed sale; the larger transfer to exchanges could have been for collateral, futures trading or market-making rather than an immediate liquidation.

At the time, HYPE traded around $88. It was down about 4% for the day and 5.5% for the week, but still up roughly 6% over the previous month. The combined whale movement was less than 0.1% of the token’s estimated market value, so it did not represent a wholesale exit. Even so, it raised the question of who was absorbing the selling.

U.S. Hyperliquid funds have not been a clear source of new demand. Cumulative inflows peaked at $356.6 million on September 4 before slipping to $342.5 million, according to SoSoValue. That suggested about $14 million more had been withdrawn than added over the period. Total net assets for those funds stood near $502 million, a figure that moves with HYPE’s price and does not necessarily reflect fresh buying. Multicoin’s earlier sale added to the impression that some early backers were taking profits.

The Binance listing also complicated the read on demand. Most trades on Binance, OKX and Bybit never appear on public blockchains, because they are matched inside internal order books. Wallet trackers can see coins moving to an exchange, but they cannot see who buys them afterward. Unless fund inflows climb back above $356.6 million and HYPE breaks its previous record, the buyers below the peak may remain anonymous order-book traders rather than named institutions.

Institutional products, ETFs and the U.S. regulatory path

The ETF race has become a major part of the HYPE story. Bitwise filed the first S-1 in September 2025 and amended it on April 10, 2026, adding the ticker BHYP, a 0.67% annual management fee, NYSE Arca listing plans and Anchorage Digital as custodian. The fund would hold HYPE directly and include a staking feature that passes about 85% of staking rewards to investors after fees. Bitwise’s U.S. HYPE ETF debuted on May 14, 2026, and the firm said it would publish wallet addresses on May 21, 2026, to let investors independently track holdings. Bitwise also launched a Hyperliquid staking ETP in Europe under BHYP on Deutsche Börse Xetra on April 9.

Other asset managers have joined the queue. 21Shares filed its own S-1 in October 2025 and separately launched a Hyperliquid ETP on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Grayscale filed on March 21, 2026, for a GHYP ETF on Nasdaq with Coinbase Custody and CoinDesk Benchmark pricing, though its fund currently prohibits staking. VanEck has confirmed plans for a spot staking HYPE ETF under the proposed ticker VHYP.

Institutional ownership data has started to appear. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart compiled 13F filings showing that 30 institutional firms held a combined $74.9 million in spot Hyperliquid ETF exposure. Three spot funds—Bitwise’s BHYP, Grayscale’s HYPG and 21Shares’ THYP—held 2.56% of total HYPE supply, according to a September 6 post from BSCN on X.

The U.S. approval picture is not simple. HYPE lacks CFTC-regulated futures contracts trading in the United States, so it does not qualify for the faster generic listing standards that helped other crypto ETFs. As of April 2026, none of the major filings had received SEC approval, and the review period for Bitwise’s original filing stretched toward late May. The regulatory mood has improved, however: SEC Chair Paul Atkins has backed broader listing standards for crypto-based exchange-traded products, and the number of issuers seeking HYPE exposure suggests real demand for regulated access.

Political signals have added to the speculation. On August 19, President Donald Trump said the CFTC chair was working hard to bring Hyperliquid onshore. HYPE hit a record $95.95 on September 22 partly on hopes of U.S. market access. But Trump’s comment was not an approval, and as of September 23 Hyperliquid had not announced a U.S. filing. The platform still voluntarily blocks U.S. users to avoid regulatory violations. On September 16, Payward, the parent of Kraken, said its CFTC-regulated exchange Bitnomial would move to list Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures for U.S. clients, pending approval. That approval would cover Payward’s listing, not Hyperliquid itself, but it could still drive more network activity, fees and token buybacks.

Revenue, USDC yield and protocol upgrades

A newer revenue stream comes from USDC reserves parked on Hyperliquid. Since August 26, Coinbase and Circle have passed on about 90% of the cost-adjusted yield generated by cash equivalents and Treasuries backing those stablecoins. At the Federal Reserve’s target rates set on September 16, that worked out to roughly $250 million annually, based on $7.4 billion in USDC on the exchange. Hyperliquid had 2025 revenue of $818 million, so the arrangement could add about a 30% boost. The new income is mainly intended for buybacks and burns, with transfers formally beginning on October 3.

The protocol has also kept shipping updates. On August 3, Hyperliquid upgraded its TWAP order engine, bringing execution features usually found on centralized exchanges directly onto its Layer 1 and running them fully on-chain. On June 24, after six months of live testing, portfolio margin entered beta with higher limits. Users with account values below $25 million can now use BTC and HYPE as collateral to trade perpetuals, spot and outcome markets with greater capital efficiency. On June 11, Hyperliquid and Tradexyz launched the FOMO app, which allows perpetual trading across equities, pre-IPO stocks, cryptocurrencies, indices and commodities from one interface.

Infrastructure partnerships have expanded as well. On July 2, VALR announced a direct integration with Hyperliquid’s Layer 1. The African exchange, which is the largest by trading volume on the continent, said it would launch more than 200 cross-asset perpetual markets inside its own interface. It described the move as the first time a regulated centralized exchange had natively outsourced its order book to an on-chain protocol. On July 9, VALR co-founder and CEO Farzam Ehsani spoke with Hyperliquid co-founder and CEO Jeff Yan about the integration and the future of CeFi and DeFi. On July 16, HL Global hosted the Hyperliquid Summit 2026 at the New York Athletic Club, drawing 200 attendees, 40 speakers and 20 sponsors for panels and research on Hyperliquid’s evolution into a broader financial ecosystem.

On-chain metrics have trended higher through 2026. A Dune analytics dashboard showed HyperEVM total transaction fees above 356.29K, total trading volume above $5.242 trillion and revenue above $1.242 billion, each at a record level at the time. Those figures point to growing adoption, though they cover different periods and definitions than the earlier annualized revenue figure.

Price outlook and prediction markets

HYPE’s chart has been volatile but upward over the long run. The token traded near $9–$10 in April 2025, then climbed to a local peak around $59 in September 2025. A sharp correction took it to about $21 in January 2026. After finding a bottom, it rallied to break old ceilings and reached roughly $76 in June 2026. Buying momentum continued through July and August, pushing it to around $86 and then near $88–$89 in early September. A pullback tested $76 before HYPE pushed above $90 and reached about $97.70. By late September, after the Binance listing, it had pulled back into the high $80s and low $90s.

Key levels have become clear to traders. The $90 area acts as a short-term threshold, while $76 is a major support zone. If $90 fails, $76 could come back into focus; a breakdown below that could invite pressure toward $70 or $60. A deeper failure would put the $52 structural floor on watch. To the upside, a sustained move above $90 could open the door to $100, with some forecasts pointing to $115–$130 by year-end if demand returns.

Prediction markets have reflected that split. A popular Polymarket question asked what price Hyperliquid would reach by 2026. Bets that HYPE would pass $75 were validated in August, while 91% of bets expected it to exceed $90, which happened in September. Around 76% later predicted a move above $110 in the coming weeks or months. On the downside, bets for HYPE falling below $75 had a 46% probability, below $70 stood at 48%, and below $60 carried only 15% odds before the end of 2026.

Longer-range projections vary widely and should be treated as speculative. One compiled forecast model listed a 2026 potential low of $25, average of $50 and high of $90. For 2027, it projected a $40 low, $75 average and $105 high; for 2028, $55 to $130 with a $95 average; for 2029, $85 to $155 with a $110 average; and for 2030, $105 to $185 with a $125 average. Other market trackers have also published very different targets, which is typical for volatile crypto assets.

All told, Hyperliquid has built a rare combination of real trading volume, a token tied to fee buybacks and a growing institutional footprint. The Binance listing widened access but also gave early holders a place to sell. ETF filings and U.S. regulatory talk have raised the ceiling for what HYPE could become, while whale transfers, fund outflows and token unlocks keep the near-term picture mixed. The next signals to watch are whether inflows recover, whether HYPE clears its prior record, and whether U.S. access moves from speculation to an actual regulated product.
